Last week we proudly shared the news that Rob Nunn, Managing Director of The Creative Group, was asked to participate in the #AskAPioneer campaign with Voom Pioneers. A week on from the Twitter interview, we share with you all the questions and answers!
Which industry sectors do you work in?
Lots! My interests range from: Private Equity & Property, Holiday Agencies, Marketing, Sponsorship, Management Consultancy & Broadcast Entertainment!
How did you get into running businesses so young?
Great Question! I thought I could do things better myself. Once I started amassing some money, I then invested and it got a bit out of hand!
Where's the best place to start looking for funding?
Angel investors are great for start-ups (found on LinkedIn) & start up loans are good starters - like Virgin StartUps. You can message me too!
Do you find the different American & British business cultures challenging?
At times the difference can be a challenge. I've found it harder to break through in the UK than the US. Two very different ways of working!
Crowdfunding or venture capital, which is best?
The best way to fund yourself is through sales, crowdfunding helps this! Venture Capital is good for growth if needed. For start-ups, I'd say Crowdfunding!
What's been your biggest challenge so far?
By far the biggest challenge I've overcome is arrogant stupidity. When you're young and the boss you think you know it all. Once you get over the need to be right all the time, and surround yourself with people who know what you don't, you thrive!
Any industry you're interested in but haven't got into yet?
Good question! Yes - hotels! Certainly, the next step for me would be to find involved interest in a hotel, or hotel chain.
How do you manage your time whilst running international businesses?
At times this is a real challenge, advance planning! I'm lucky to have an amazing fiancée, Alice, who also keeps me in check!
What's the most rewarding thing about being an entrepreneur?
There's no doubt that once established it provides a lot of work freedoms. For me personally,it's all the travelling I get to do!
What would be your one piece of essential advice be to others staring a business?
Don't rush! So many people rush themselves into an idea. Take time and plan! It will be the difference between an early retirement and failure.
And finally, what’s next for you?
Canada - I have a real love the place! Currently I'm investing there to build a portfolio so I can access trade across North America.
